Our House

Our house is in Asturias in Northern Spain, the Green Spain.  The house is situated in a small mountain hamlet, Samartin, between the Picos de Europa National Park range and the Parque Natural de Redes, and about half an hour from the coast. The nearest small market town, Infiesto, is 5km away.

The whole area is ideal for nature lovers and there are many walks from the door. The surrounding villages, small towns and unspoilt coast line are a delight.

The refurbishment of the house is not totally finished yet (the top floor of the house is not developed, but it is closed from the rest by a door on the landing), but it is comfortable and well equipped and has everything needed for a holiday.

We now want to start to let it to friends and acquaintances because we prefer it to be occupied in between our visits.

La Figar is a typical Asturian farmhouse with balcony facing south and a large overhang of the roof. We believe it was built in 1905, on the spot where an older house stood. The present patio was the stable.

The buildings attached to the house on both sides also belong to us. The one on the right we use as storage/workshop. The one on the left, alleged to be from the early 1800 was lately used as a pigsty and we want to sell it.

The house consists of three floors, but we are only using two at the moment. There is a door closing the large loft area from the rest of the house. We have been working on it for the last few years as time and money allowed, but now it has everything needed for a comfortable stay.

The downstairs consists of a very large open porch, ideal to sit admiring the views or have your meal, a large open plan living room and shower room. Heating is by electric radiators and a wood burning stove. The open plan kitchen is well equipped and there is a washer under the stairs.

On the first floor there is a double room with a king size bed and a second bedroom with three beds, a spacious bathroom and a very large landing (with a folding bed). This floor leads to a very large balcony 6m long and 2m deep and it also has access to the patio at the back of the house.

There are smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in both floors.

The furniture in the house is all wood, clean, practicable items which are from relations in Spain and England, except the mattresses which are new. There are umbrellas for beach and rain, beach towels and walking sticks. We keep a supply of information leaflets, attractions and maps of the area.

We have a small area of garden in front of the house which you can see in the photo and a patio at the back which gets the evening sun.
