Our house is in Asturias in Northern Spain, the Green Spain. The house is situated in a small mountain hamlet, Samartin, between the Picos de Europa National Park range and the Parque Natural de Redes, and about half an hour from the coast. The nearest small market town, Infiesto, is 5km away. This is where all the facilities are: shops, supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, open air swimming pool and medical centre.
The whole area is ideal for nature lovers and there are walks from the door. The surrounding villages, small towns and unspoilt coastline are a delight.
San Martin (Samartin in the Asturian dialect) is about 5 km from Infiesto. It is situated at the end of a single track lane, 1 mile from the local road. The hamlet is about 450m above sea level and has beautiful views which ever way you look, and because it faces south, it has a microclimate of its own. Lemon trees grow in the village and more strange, even an olive tree which gives olives, unusual so far north.
